1. Basic concepts of cutting method

2. Classification of cutting methods

The trajectory of cutting tools in line cutting mainly consists of a series of straight segments parallel to a fixed direction, which is easy to calculate. Suitable for simple cavity precision machining or rough machining to remove large margins, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1: Reciprocating cutting tool path
In ring cutting machining, the tool follows a path with similar boundary contours and is composed of a set of closed curves, which can ensure that the tool maintains the same cutting state when cutting parts. Due to the fact that ring cutting machining constructs the current circular trajectory map through continuous bias to calculate the next circular trajectory, the calculation is complex and time-consuming. Suitable for processing complex cavities and surfaces, as shown in Figure 2.

3, Reasonable selection of cutting method
1. Basic selection principles
When choosing the cutting method, two points should be considered: first, the length of processing time, and second, whether the machining allowance is uniform. Generally speaking, the ring cutting method is based on the shape of the workpiece, and the machining allowance is relatively uniform. The machining allowance for using line cutting method is relatively uneven. If you want to leave a more uniform allowance after line cutting, you usually need to increase the circular cutting tool path around the boundary. If the requirement of uneven margin is ignored, the tool path length of the cutting path is usually relatively short; If considering the non-uniformity of the margin and increasing the circular cutting tool path, when the processing area boundary is long (such as in the case of multiple tool areas), the circular cutting tool path around the boundary has a significant impact on the total processing time, and the row cutting tool path is generally longer than the circular cutting tool path. The cutting position of the cutting tool is easy to calculate and occupies less memory, but there are more times to lift the tool. When using a circular tool path, it is necessary to offset the ring boundary multiple times and clear the self intersecting ring.
